Mixmaster Mike

…is the boy. From back in May this year is Mixmaster Mike’s Strombo session.

Free Foo Fighters EP

I just received an email from the Foo Fighters (no, not just me, I ain’t that cool) with an open letter from Dave Grohl describing the last 12 months or so in the life of the Foo Fighters as well as a few thoughts about the recent Paris attack and the reason why this EP has come about.

Follow this link to read the letter from Dave and to download or stream the free ‘Saint Cecilia’ EP.

The Garden

I heard a track called ‘All Smiles Over Here :)’ by Orange County band The Garden last night on Radio 1. Slightly hipster, no-wave California punk and definitely worth more of a listen.

Here’s a nice little tip for you, check out Scamps out of Boston, MA. Cool, bluesy, rock and roll 2-piece in the vein of The White Stripes. Couple of free EP’s on their Bandcamp page too.

The Damn Heavy

Saw these guys last Friday at a little venue in Nottingham called The Lofthouse. It was an evening of psych/acid sixties-style rock with a couple of DJs and three bands. These guys were the second band on and blew my socks off with their Nick Cave/Matchbox B-Line Disaster/Black Rebel Motorcycle Club/Jim Jones Revue style sleazy, bluesy rock and roll.

They’ve agreed to send me an album so I’ll try and do a review of that when it arrives.

The Damn Heavy can also be found on Facebook.

New Wolfmother Album

On the back of the 10th anniversary release of the eponymous first album, Andrew Stockdale has announced a new Wolfmother album is to be released in the near future.

Let’s hope it’s more in line with his ‘By The Sword’ collaboration with Slash and less like Cosmic Egg.

DJ Krush vs DJ Shadow: The Remixes

Internationally renowned electronic music label Mo’Wax was founded in 1992 by Tim Goldsworthy and James Lavelle.

Over the years it has given the world some of the most influential producers of hip-hop, breaks and electronica such as U.N.K.L.E., Money Mark, Dr Octagon and of course the legendary DJs, Krush and Shadow.

This announcement/release came out of nowhere for me as I’d not heard much coming from the Mo’Wax stable for some time, but here it is. It’s actually an unofficial release by some guy called Mr Moods and his Nuages imprint, but it’s a free (or pay-what-you-want) release of Shadow vs Krush remix action downloadable from or by following this link.

What’s not to like?
